The Story of the Himeji-jo
Himeji-jo is an ancient castle located on Mount Himeji (45.6 meters above sea level) in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. It is the main symbol of the city.
Because of its pure white exterior walls and winding eaves, it is also known as Egret City. It is a world cultural heritage.
Himeji Castle, together with Matsuyama Castle and Wakayama Castle, is known as Japan's three-star Hirayama Castle. Because of its high degree of preservation, it is known as "Japan's first famous city". Many period dramas and movies were also filmed here, or used Himeji Castle as a symbol of the defunct Edo Castle.
